My 2020 Fitness Goals

Happy (almost) New Year everybody! I’m really excited for 2020. I think this is going to be a great year. Things are really coming together in this season of my life: we’ve settled into our house, I am making great strides at the gym, I am turning 30(!) in May, I feel wiser, and I’m more focused than ever.

Time is also moving very quickly. I don’t want anything in life to pass me by, so I have a big list of things I want accomplish in 2020.

In this post, I’m choosing to focus on my fitness goals for the new year. My “life” goals (in case you’re curious) include traveling internationally for the first time, paying off my student loans, celebrating my 5-year wedding anniversary and redoing the floors in my house. There’s a lot to do!

My fitness goals for 2020:

1. Finally back squat 200lbs.

I have a love/hate relationship with squats. I’ve come so close to this goal but never quite achieved it.

I’m maxing out at about 180lbs right now, and while I’m proud of this progress, there’s always room for improvement.

2. Join a barbell club.

I found a highly-rated barbell club in Bridgeville where they specialize in coaching the Olympic lifts. One of my goals is to join and train there once a week.

3. Compete in a powerlifting meet.

This goal scares me, which I guess means it’s a good one! By the end of the year, I want to compete at least once.

I don’t know much about competitions, but I’m hoping that goal #2 will point me in the right direction.

4. Get my blog off the ground.

Not quite a fitness goal, but I wanted to put it here because it’s important to me in 2020. I’ve been busy putting together great fitness content for this year and I’m excited to share it with you!

5. Learn to snatch 100lbs.

Of the Olympic lifts, snatching has been the most difficult for me. I’m struggling to make any progress, but I think the coaching will help. I’d love to be able to snatch 100lbs by the end of the year.

  1. Competing in a meet shouldn’t scare you. They are a lot of fun, and there are people of all levels there helping each other out. Everyone supports and encourages everyone else, and you’ll leave inspired and excited. Go for it!
